Air Canada Flight 34

This post is being composed whilst in flight between Sydney and Honolulu, however it will not be transmitted until we have access to a public telephone - possibly during our transit stop at Honolulu airport. We have now been in the air for 3 hours, enjoyed the most delicious lunch with a glass of wine and watched the first of three inflight movies - "Rumour Has It".
Our trip actually commenced yesterday (Sun) when Jim drove Gail & I to Gosford railway station. We travelled by train to Central, where we were met by Rodney & Angie.
The four of us had lunch at Oscars in Darling Harbour. Rodney then dropped Gail & I at the Airport Stamford Plaza Hotel for our overnight accomodation. We can recommend this course of action for flights departing prior to 10am, as it allows a relaxed night prior to catching the 7am shuttle bus to the International airport.
At the airport we were unexpectantly met by an APT (our Alaska tour company) representative who assisted us with a very speedy & hassle free passage through the check in procedures. This courtesy was provided even though we had booked our flight independantly - and a day earlier than required. The only security check we had was a cursory glance in Kevin's suitcase at a random check prior to check in. We were very impressed by APT's presence & assistance. The second movie has just commenced - Harry Potter's latest.

3 Days to Go.
Well, almost everything is finalised and organised. Our tickets etc. were picked up last Monday (22/5). We received a mountain of folders, documents and misc bits to sort through and read. Only one minor problem we can see to date. Passengers on the Alaska Cruise/Tour are advised to make their optional shore excursion tour bookings on line asap. Today after sorting through the multitude of options we finally narrowed our wish list down to an affordable proposition. Logged on to the Internet to make the advance bookings, only to find that bookings can only be made online up to 10 days prior to the cruise/tour departure date (before our tickets etc were even available to us). Furthermore because they will not accept advance bookings within this 10 day period, we are unable to even look at the current prices for these tours.

Alaska & Beyond - Here We Come

4 Weeks to go

We are now desperately trying to get everything around home organised, in addition to making sure we have not overlooked anything for our trip.
As we anticipate cold to cool weather in Alaska during the first 4 weeks of this trip of 12 weeks, we plan to take a mixture of winter and summer clothes. Our tickets and all travel documents are expected next week.

Regards, Kevin & Gail.
